1.3 SUBMITTALS |
If 01 33 29 is not incorporated in the specifications, change reference to 01 33 29 in this section to instead say 01 57 19.01 20 SUPPLEMENTAL TEMPORARY ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS and ensure the additional sustainable acquisition language at paragraphs "Submittals" and "Sustainable Acquisition" of 01 57 19.01 20 is included within that section. |
|
1.3 SUBMITTALS |
As applicable based on project scope, add the following under "SD-01 Preconstruction Submittals" and "SD-11 Closeout Submittals". Ensure all hazardous material and pesticide submittals are coordinated per 01 57 19 and 01 57 19.01 20: |

1.5.2.3 TOPSOIL |
Add the following as a second paragraph if herbicide will be used. Choose Pollution Prevention for work at Lewis-Main, Lewis-North, McChord Field, and supported external facilities. Choose Environmental Compliance for work at JBLM YTC: |
Herbicide must be on the JBLM Pesticide Use Proposal for the FY in which application occurs as well as the contractor's current hazardous material Authorized Use List[s] issued by the JBLM DPW ED [Pollution Prevention] [and] [Environmental Compliance]. Applicators must be state certified. See Sections 01 57 19 TEMPORARY ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS, 01 57 19.01 20 SUPPLEMENTAL TEMPORARY ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS, and 32 05 33 LANDSCAPE ESTABLISHMENT for more pest management-related requirements. Use of hazardous materials shall adhere to JBLM installation Regulation 200-1. |
2.1 PLANTS |
NOTE: See UFC 1-200-02 and ASA IE&E SDD policy in the criteria section at the top and incorporate related requirements into selections and specifications as applicable. See also federal sustainable landscapes guidance in the criteria section above and incorporate into selections as feasible. |

2.14 WATER |
See 6.4.1 at ASHRAE 189.1, which applies via Army sustainable design requirements. It limits establishment potable water irrigation to 70% of ET0 for turfgrass and 55% for other plantings. This would require some sort of evapotranspiration calculation and control, which suggests some sort of sensor being in place.
Controllers and spray heads falling under the WaterSense criteria must be WaterSense labeled. If either will be used, include the WaterSense related submittals at SD-01 and SD-11 and add the following here:

Design Requirements
Tree choice:
Best attempt shall be made to pick trees according to the City of Tacoma Urban Forestry Manual 2025, including Appendices 7A, 7B, 7C, 7D. Note 7D is a list of prohibited and not recommended trees.

Utilize USDA USFS Tree Owners Manual 2015 (2021 edit) for planting trees. Installation (Planting) is currently pages 6 through 11. Common mistakes are made in steps: 5 (problem roots not removed), 6 (correct depth of hole not determined), and 7 (too deep a hole dug).
Ensure 32 05 33 is included in sites that install trees with special attention to:
3.5.3 Tree Staking and Guying Removal Provide a certified letter that all stakes and guys are removed from all project trees at the end of the establishment period. (current text for 2017)
